The Wilds - Hard Mode
I'm having difficulty here and it's naturally very annoying.
I keep having members of my party rapidly killed by Moss Scarabs. Even with numerous attempts at flagging and keeping enemy groups to a minimum, I'm being overpowered.
If anyone has any suggestions on how to kill these beasties before they kill me, that would be great.
No, I'm not using an MM either.

Do you mean you haven't tried using an MM or that you just don't want to? If MM's are ok, Sabway works fine afaik, even with [[Verata's Gaze]. If you don't want to use a MM, maybe try Racs Paras + Orders Derv, though that requires having SY.

I'll give Rac's another try, but it seems even the most foolproof builds fall apart in my hands.
I don't want to use an MM because of Verata's, you're right. I feel it's too much of a liability having condition causing minions running amok through my party.

do your heroes have runes/insignias and decent weapons?
it helps a LOT if they are runed and have max weapons (pref. with health bonus on it)

The scarabs are touch necros, so SY isn't going to do a whole lot.
You need to look into higher health to survive the touch spikes, good healing backline to push through it, and/or energy denial to shut down their touch abilitiy. (Ancestor's/Sympathetic Visage) They like to clump and blow up to AoE pretty fast too, frontline necro armor ftl.

One tripple heater usually finishes all the scarabs off before they do some damage :P

Flaming burney death, Miskav? Sounds like fun, I'll have to give that a go as well.

I have not done this exact mission on hm, but in other areas vanquishing and such I have found that verata's gaze really doesnt make a difference. sab's minion bomber works just fine against them, because they don't tend to use verata's gaze that often.
also gaze still just breaks the bond, it doesnt actually steal the minion from you. so even with the bond broken most of the time they just attack the scarabs anyways. unless the scarabs use gaze again on the same minion, it is neutral and attacks whoever.

I took almost everything in Prophecies HM with the Sab's, Claude, and Alesia. when I had parties of 4, it was only Sab's. Parties of 8=Sab's+Claude/Eve+Alesia/Mhenlo+Dunham+Lina. That gets pretty much everything done for me. I myself am a DSlash warrior, so it may just work easily cause of that.
I dunno, got nothin else. Good luck on HM.

Well, went back into The Wilds with Sab's MM using hex removal, the Resto Rit and Zhed running the burning death (above). I'm using Orion and Thom as well, seems to be working (I've done the bonus).

I don't Hard Mode that much, to be honest. I just wanted to justify my being there to Cart. That and I wasn't expecting the Scarabs to quite so annoying (and henches are idiots).

I found the best way to handle the scarabs was to grab their aggro yourself and body block them at the corners of the variaous pathways. When they are focussed on one target your monks should have little difficuty keeping up with their damage output while the rest of your party kills them.
Worked for me.
